The visit to the Kremlin will not be complete without going inside one of the most prized museums in Russia – the Diamond Fund.
The Diamond Fund is a unique collection that includes masterpieces of jewelry, rare gems, insignia, gold and platinum nuggets and remains one of the few treasuries in the world that houses the Crown jewels. The Diamond Fund was established by a Decree of Peter the Great back in 1719 and was originally located in Winter Palace in St.Petersburg. Although Peter the Great is the founder it was Catherine the Great that contributed the most to the museums collection.
There is some controversy and speculation on what happened to the collection during the 1917 Russian Revolution but the Diamond Fund was finally opened to the public for the first time in 1967 - almost 250 years after its establishment. The Diamond Fund originally was a short term show but after its enormous success it became a permanent exhibition in 1968.
During the visit to the Diamond Fund you will be able to see historical gems such as the Orlov Diamond and the Shah Diamond. View the Daffodil Bouquet and The Blue Fountain Jewelry and gaze at the Imperial Crown of Russia made for Catherine the Great. The visit to the Diamond Fund is part of our Kremlin including the Armory and Diamond Fund Private Tour.
